Dissociation of the benzene molecule by UV and soft X-rays in circumstellar environment

چکیده
Benzene molecules, present in the proto-planetary nebula CRL 618, are ionized and dissociated by UV and X-ray photons originated from the hot central star and by its fast wind. Ionic species and free radicals produced by these processes can lead to the formation of new organic molecules. The aim of this work is to study the photoionization and photodissociation processes of the benzene molecule, using synchrotron radiation and time of flight mass spectrometry. Mass spectra were recorded at different energies corresponding to the vacuum ultraviolet (21.21 eV) and soft X-ray (282 310 eV) spectral regions. The production of ions from the benzene dissociative photoionization is here quantified, indicating that C6H6 is more efficiently fragmented by soft X-ray than UV radiation, where 50% of the ionized benzene molecules survive to UV dissociation while only about 4% resist to X-rays. Partial ion yields of H and small hydrocarbons such as C2H+2 , C3H + 3 C4H + 2 are determined as a function of photon energy. Absolute photoionization and dissociative photoionization cross sections have also been determined. From these values, half-life of benzene molecule due to UV and X-ray photon fluxes in CRL 618 were obtained.

متن کاملThe study of dose gamma rays of 192Ir source on DNA single strand break (SSB) and DNA double strand break (DSB) in soft tissue phantom
Introduction: Passage of ionizing radiation through the organs of living creatures develops clusters of damaged nucleotides inside the DNA rounds. 192Ir Gamma source is one of the most widely used sources in brachytherapy of cervical and prostate cancer. Thus, in this research, we investigated the flux of photons and its resulting secondary electrons, the single-strand break (S...
متن کاملA Soft and Efficient Approach for Removal of Template from Mesoporous Silica using Benzene Sulfonamide
In this contribution, an effective and soft method for removal of template from nanochannels of mesoporous silica (MCM-41) is proposed. This method is based on chemically-modified solvent extraction which enhanced by means of an auxiliary organic compound, i.e. benzene sulfonamide. Template removal was performed in soft condition, i.e. in the presence of diluted sulfuric acid and at ambient tem...
متن کاملLateral Soft Tissue X-ray for Patients with Suspected Fishbone in Oropharynx, A thing in the past
Introduction: Fishbone is the most common foreign body found in the oropharynx. Conventionally patients with suspected fishbone in the throat would have mirror laryngoscopy followed by lateral soft tissue X-ray to look for the fishbone or observe impacts caused by the fishbone i.e. soft tissue swelling or air in upper esophagus. However, the most common site of fishbone impact is the suprahyoid...
